Virginia Cavaliers alter new logos to remove references to universitys slavery history

The University of Virginia announced Monday that it was altering logos introduced in April to remove references to the school’s history of slavery. The new logos included tweaks to the Cavaliers’ well-known image of crossed sabres; the school said in April the handles of the swords were redesigned to “mimic the serpentine walls” on its grounds in Charlottesville. As some pointed out then, those walls were designed by university founder Thomas Jefferson to hide the sight of and mute the sound of slaves who were forced to carry out a variety of tasks at the school.

Why Wasnt Emmy Rossum In The Shameless Series Finale?

We should’ve seen this coming. Or not coming, as it were. Although seen in flashbacks, Emmy Rossum’s Fiona did not make one final return to the Gallagher home in Chicago for the series finale of Showtime’s Shameless, which ended the show’s 11-season run last night (April 11). So why wasn’t Emmy Rossum in the Shameless series finale? Emmy Rossum telegraphed her non-appearance last week on Twitter, writing, “I’m so proud of this cast and am immensely honored to have been a part of a show as unique and impactful as Shameless.

Why you should be using cold water more often at home

You may not be giving a second thought to setting your washing machine on the hot cycle, cranking your showers to a steamy temperature or scrubbing your dirty dishes under a stream of scalding water. If you did, you’d find that you probably don’t need to use so much hot water — and that you could be saving energy and cutting your utility bills. Water heating is responsible for more than 10 percent of both annual residential energy use and consumer utility costs, the biggest share after air conditioning and heating, according to the Energy Department.

'Jurassic Park' got nearly everything wrong about Dilophosaurus, new study says

It’s a discovery, 65 million years in the making. Even though Dilophosaurus was a beautiful, but deadly addition to Jurassic Park, the hit movie of the same name was wildly incorrect in how it portrayed the deadly dinosaur, a new study suggests. The research, published in the Journal of Paleontology, notes Dilophosaurus was significantly larger than it was portrayed in the movie, reaching up to 20 feet in length and had more in common with modern-day birds than previously believed.

As Apollo 11 was on the moon, Luna 15 was in obit then crashed

As Neil Armstrong walked on the lunar surface and marveled at the “fine, sandy particles” that crunched under his boot, he and the rest of the Apollo 11 crew were not alone. A Soviet spacecraft, Luna 15, had beat them to orbit days before, circumnavigating the moon in a final Cold War showdown race to land on another celestial body and return home. The unmanned spacecraft’s mission would be an epic coup: get to the moon, scoop up rocks and jettison back toward Earth before the Americans returned with their own samples.

Twenty-one years later, McKeig became the first Native American woman to serve on any state’s supreme court. Today, she’s one of seven justices ruling on Minnesota’s most pressing legal matters, and has become a strong advocate for diversity on the bench.

The Bachelorette finale implodes as Hannah breaks up with Jed for lying about his girlfrien

You knew it was going to be a weird “Bachelorette” finale when host Chris Harrison opened the show with this line: “Tonight, we’ll witness great love, incredible trust, and unfortunately, the massive destructive forces of lies and betrayal.” That’s not what you want to hear — at least, not if you’re Hannah Brown, the 24-year-old Alabama beauty pageant contestant who became a fan favorite last season on “The Bachelor” after she was eliminated and confidently declared, “I will not allow myself to not feel chosen every single day.
